Why did you say yes to this campaign? What was your WHY to participate?

My daughter asked me to take part in this campaign as she wanted to capture some precious memories for Mother’s Day. I have always loved dressing up in beautiful clothes so I did not have to be asked twice!

Tell me a little about you and your story:

I became a widow when my children were 6 and 9. Even though I knew my beloved husband suffered from health problems when I married him, it was nonetheless completely devastating when he passed away. Fortunately God gave me the strength to keep working and I managed to put them both through university and see them forge great careers for themselves. My children always came first and I am proud of what we have all achieved along the way.

What do you see when you look in the mirror?

I see a strong, determined woman who believes anything is possible if you put your mind to it.

Describe yourself in 3 words:

Strong-willed, caring and nice naughty!

Do you feel like you have changed since turning 80?

Since moving into my 80’s, I continue to be thankful to God for giving me my good health and allowing me to enjoy my family around me. Having lived through Covid and seen the terrible losses which some people experienced, I am even more appreciative of how blessed I am. On a lighter note, one key change since I turned 80 seven years ago is my sweet tooth, which unfortunately has become even sweeter!

What are the most rewarding things about getting older?

Not having to cook, having plenty of spare time to potter in the garden and to put your feet up with a sudoku. Leaving the rat race behind.

What has been the best life lesson you have learned along the way?

No matter what terrible things life throws at you, never give up and keep your faith alive.

What advice would you give to your younger self about caring for yourself?

Be kind to others and help people if you can. It is important however, not to neglect yourself, mentally or physically. Do not doubt yourself and carry yourself proudly.

What is your favourite quote?

Learn to make the most of life and lose no happy day. God will never give you back the time that has passed away.

What do you love most about your new portraits? Is there something new you discovered about yourself?

I love the warmth and incredible bond between my daughter and myself which is beautifully captured by Olga’s lens. I was surprised at how relaxed I was posing in front of the camera but I know this was due to Olga’s reassuring manner which put us immediately both at ease.

What was your favourite part of working with me?

Working with Olga was a great pleasure. Watching her work magic in her studio and then present the final beautiful images was an experience that will never be forgotten.
